The Fell Fire Forge rages to life!
over 9 years ago – Tue, Sep 27, 2016 at 08:52:04 AM

  • Illustration and solo campaign updates
  • Pledge manager

Checking in to let you know everything is going smooth and we have fully engaged our illustrators to nearly double the amount of artwork in the Fell Fire Forge!  We will of course continue to create the high quality artwork that you've experienced with the Adamatine Anvil Dwarves and the Burning Brood Dragons, bringing that same crushing darkness to all our warbands including the solo campaign!  Speaking of the non-linear solo campaign, it is becoming not just incredible but an absolute thicket of crossed paths and depth in its numerous scenarios and adventures.  For example if you manage to recruit a unit in an early campaign scenario (through your in-game prowess), he will effect a few of your choices throughout the entire campaign, including if he lives or perishes on the battlefield. Every outcome will have a consequence, and not necessarily a bad consequence, but a result for actions that occur.  In one campaign you may find a unit does not match your strategy thus not frequently use him, and as a result gain other benefits.  In another campaign he may fit your warbands strategy perfectly, and you can maximize his talents, but then not collect on others!  The replayability is exponentially growing and I could not be more excited about its current state, and at only 40% complete its only getting better.

Oren Iron-veins our Dwarf Hero is a welcome addition commanding your forces.  Look toward his call on the fields of battle.

Pledge manager

We have inquired with a number of external pledge managers (BackerKit, etc) and we have decided that instead of spending money on their services, to pour that money into the art, production, and quality components to continue to make the Fell Fire Forge even more amazing.  We will be using a survey based pledge manager that we will be rolling out by next week, so please look toward that tool for confirming your shipping address, and any potential add-on content.

We are looking forward to this!

Gen-Con and fate of the 5th warband
over 9 years ago – Thu, Aug 18, 2016 at 02:51:39 PM

Fellow Castle Assaulters,

  • Current Status
  • Gen-Con feedback
  • 5th warband

Gen-Con was an all hands on deck experience!  We had some original playtesters, fans, and tons of friends stop by, say hello, and rock out with some of the brand new prototyped Adamantine Anvil Dwarves or Burning Brood Dragon decks, and let me tell you the feedback was tremendous!  Everyone who sat down (who has played before) was absolutely pumped, because these new decks play nothing like the old ones...  and its true, we are jam packing the Fell Fire Forge with a massive amount of content and variety so these new decks will play nothing like anything you've seen before!  All the Fell Fire Forge content is going to be an absolute joy, with the depth of gameplay swizzles we are introducing it will appeal to both brand new players, and enamor the war-hardened veteran with all the new combinations possible!

The 5th warband

Kickstarter has informed us of our funding results, and I unfortunately have to communicate that nearly 20% of funding was not received from a number of pledgers, resulting in 'dropped pledges'.  While our team was familiar with this natural occurrence from prior campaigns, we lost an 'angel' backer at $2000, and with the others resulting in approximately $7000 not being received.  We are following up with Kickstarter if any recompense is possible, however Kickstarter has made it clear this is a pledge type program and will always be based on the individual backer.  While we 100% respect and understand that, our team has communicated to Kickstarter that a few 'dropped backers' ultimately results in a negative effect for everyone... and now has put the Volsk team in a hard situation.

Grand Summary: (laying it out on the table with all the sincerest of honesty) Based on the reduction of funds we cannot possibly create the 5th warband due to the cost of illustrating the warband (17+ additional illustrations), the increased manufacturing cost (extra cards), and increased shipping costs (heavier weight) with the reduction of funds from dropped backers.

We are pledging to you, that this will not compromise our unlocked 3rd (Medievalpunk War-Engine) or our unlocked 4th (Grimm Harlequinn Fae) in quality or fun.  These decks will be just as amazing as our Adamantine Anvil Dwarves, and our Burning Brood Dragons both in art style and gameplayability.

We also vow in a future Castle Assault Kickstarter campaign to include our "backer selected" warband as automatically unlocked and included for all those who have backed the Fell Fire Forge or the Premier Edition.

While it pains me to write this, please accept my deepest apologies,

TJ

A real quick THANK YOU to all of our backers and your legendary support!

Once things settle down here at Gen-Con I'll share some our top highlights and general information on what's next.  Also I'm going to open a formal survey for voting on our final unlocked warband!!

I'm so vastly happy for what we accomplished!

Thank you all,

TJ

Last 5 hrs!

I would like to send a personal THANK YOU to all of you for all of your support during this amazing Kickstarter experience.  All of your gracious pledges will allow us to create one of the most amazing, dynamic experiences we can possibly craft, and our team could not be more excited to drive this process to completion.

We are still populating the results from the voting for the 3rd unlocked warband but at this time it appears to be a VERY close contest between the #4 - Swordstorm Sky Pirates and the #9 - Call of the Deep (Cthulhu)!   We are extremely excited to potentially unlock this warband bringing the Fell Fire Forge experience to 5 warbands!

As we power down the home stretch I would like to share 2 additional cards, one from the Adamantine Anvil Dwarves and one from the Burning Brood Dragons:

The commander of all dwarven military campaigns is Sabo Brewslayer. Undefeated in battle (though not without loss of limb) it is rumored Sabo's lower half is now nearly 85% iron and brass. Incapable of feeling pain Sabo's strategic battlefield prowess is now legend throughout the Dwarven realm. Personally leading the vanguard of the dwarven forces he is highly mobile and extremely effective on offense, able to pass through defensive ranks with ease leaves no question when Sabo is leading the charge there will be nothing but destruction. Sabo's cost will quickly be justified as he is an answer to nearly any defensive dilemma, and counter-attacks immediately.

No dwarven force should be lacking Sabo Brewslayer and he's more than happy to wade through the tides of your enemies with you.

The Razor Wing Wyvern is a lightning encrusted hell beast which gains a reputation from its miraculously long attack range, and with its "Burn" ability it will lay waste to all that stand in its path. Friend, Foe, and every single unit its blast radius will be dealt pain without duress. Strategically this wyvern can be played defensively to protect your own castle rampart, or with its fell blasts it can be aggressively played as a front line unit, harrowing your opponents castle.  Every dragon brood should be comfortable knowing they have a Razor Wing or two in their ranks, for victory is nearly ensured!

Now is the time!

Unlocked Stretch Goals and Introducing New Stretch Goals!
over 9 years ago – Fri, Aug 05, 2016 at 12:01:42 PM

Executive Summary

  • Unlocked - Lysander Games collaboration, a legendary forge card, and the Grim Harlequinn Fae!
  • New Stretch Goals revealed...

We are incredibly excited to announce that together we have unlocked three stretch goals, our Lysander Games collaboration, a legendary forge card that will be included in the campaign which I was personally thrilled to unlock because this allowed us to approve our writers to pull a nice little full-circle plot line.  Needless to say I'm pumped, and you will all enjoy the fruits of your hard work!

Grim Harlequinn Fae

This was an amazing stretch goal to tear down!  I'm absolutely thrilled to unlock this warband and upon reaching this milestone we have officially more than doubled the amount of content in the Fell Fire Forge!

While the art in the spread is not final, I'm very excited to task our illustrators on this warband, and begin the artistic process of bringing this warband to reality!

New Stretch Goals

As the Volsk team pours into Gen-Con we have set-up a few stretch goals including another warband at 39k.  This is incredibly exciting as this will be our 3rd unlocked warband, bringing the Fell Fire Forge to 5 warbands!

We had a conundrum... and we were a little unsure which warband to reveal next so we've decided to ask you.  Which of the following warbands most appeals to you?

  • #1 - The Shadow-Spider Clan
  • #2 - Witchwaste Gunslingers
  • #3 - Venomthorne Circle Druids
  • #4 - Swordstorm Sky Pirates
  • #5 - Cinder Court Pharaohs
  • #6 - Bloodbrine Myrmidon Mermen
  • #7 - Sinscar Daemon-host
  • #8 - HexHunter Inquisition
  • #9 - Call of the Deep (Cthulhu)

Please type your vote here in the comments and later this evening we will compile the results and then elaborate on the mechanics of the top two selected warbands.

We sincerely appreciate all your support in our final 30hrs
